Petrarca's dilemma - 2010
In zijn dichtbundel Il canzoniere beschreef Petrarca zijn liefde voor Laura, die hij op afstand beminde en die hij zelfs na haar dood trouw bleef. Voor hem was zij de ideale vrouw: haar schoonheid was ongeëvenaard en haar zuiverheid en eerbaarheid stonden op het hoogste niveau. Helaas was Laura getrouwd, en daarom konden hun erotische verlangens nooit in vervulling gaan. Als ze aan hun passie zouden toegeven, zou dat zondig zijn en zou Laura dus haar volmaaktheid verliezen. Voor Petrarca was de liefde voor Laura een voortdurende kwelling omdat ze onbereikbaar was.
