Renate Engelen is experimenting with paintings made in two types of paint. One is traditional acrylic, with colours that are fully developed in daylight; and the other is fluorescent paint, which develops its colours strongly in blacklight. By combining these paints in one (large) image, the painting changes when daylight is replaced by blacklight. This effect is not only investigated in Renate's cabinet. She also made the large shopfront painting, which is clearly visible from the street. The blacklight effect is particularly eye-catching in the evenings and nights.
